Financial Editing

Financial editing & content support

Financial editing and senior content support.

Need new material written?

I write financial content too: copy on investing, trading, wealth management and personal finance.

As a freelance financial editor I help marketing teams and agencies turn technical drafts, mixed contributions and long review trails into clear, consistent content.

That might mean editing for a retail audience, a rebrand, or managing a content series. I work with the subject, the reader and the people who need to approve it.

Where I can help

Teams: financial services marketing teams, communications teams and agencies.

Support: technical literature, individual edits, rebrands, ongoing series and extra capacity.

Problems I solve

Where the content needs a closer look.

The expertise is there. The explanation isn’t.

The draft assumes too much, buries its point or makes the reader do the work. I reshape the argument and edit the detail without losing the meaning.

Structural & substantive editing

Several contributors. Several different voices.

A report or website can feel like separate submissions. I bring the structure, terminology and tone into line, while preserving each specialist’s contribution.

Technical copyediting · Tone of voice

A rebrand touches everything.

New names and copy conventions need to carry through a whole library of material. I apply your style guide consistently, checking for contradictions and changes that affect the substance.

Rebrands · House style

The copy has lost its way in review.

Comments accumulate and the original brief gets lost. I reconcile feedback, keep qualifications beside claims and proofread the final layout for errors introduced along the way.

Review support · Final proofreading

The AI draft sounds convincing.

Fluency can hide unsupported claims, missing conditions or changes in meaning. I check the draft against agreed sources, edit what needs work and flag questions for your experts.

AI-assisted content review

Selected work · four projects

Editing and support in practice.

Technical literature, a recurring series, a content suite and a busy review process. These projects show the different ways I can help.

LCH and LSEG factsheet artwork, including a RepoClear quarterly highlights sheet

LCH / London Stock Exchange Group · through Tag UK

Around 50 pieces. One set of copy conventions.

As technical copyeditor on LCH’s transition to the LSEG brand, I worked across around 50 factsheets, flyers, white papers and other technical material. I applied LSEG’s copy conventions and advised on presenting dense information clearly for an institutional audience.

Cleary Gottlieb Private Equity Wrap and Market Snapshot publication artwork

Cleary Gottlieb · through Rostrum

An editor to hold a content series together.

I helped reshape the Private Equity Wrap into a market snapshot and a topical deep dive. A specialist freelance writer drafted the pieces; I managed the briefings and contributions, edited the drafts, and coordinated data, design and review.

Raymond James responsible-investment brochure suite arranged by topic and audience

Raymond James Wealth Management

Consistency across a 16-item content suite.

I developed the underlying responsible-investment material with the Head of Responsible Investment, then kept the proposition coherent across client and adviser formats. This included using the original writing as a reference set for AI-assisted adaptations that I reviewed and edited.

Coventry Building Society’s Making sense of ISAs guide, contents page and flexible-ISA illustration

Coventry Building Society

Clearer briefs and more manageable reviews.

Alongside writing for Coventry’s Knowledge Centres, I helped address shifting briefs and reviews by people who had not been involved in commissioning the work. I contributed a signed briefing template, workable lead times and guidance on marking up Word documents.

AI-assisted content review

AI drafts still need a content expert to be accountable for content standards, compliance, and performance.

I bring experience from Amazon AGI to reviewing AI-generated and AI-assisted financial content.

“What did you do at Amazon?”

I helped improve how Amazon’s AI model answered questions about personal finance and investing. As an AI Associate in the AGI team, I was part of a cohort of 40 writers, all with our own different SME area. I brought financial subject knowledge, so I refined and curbed Amazon’s AI model responses. That gave me practical experience of AI’s capabilities and limitations, which I now use to support clients.

Check the substance

Claims, figures and references checked against agreed sources.

Keep the meaning

Misleading certainty and over-optimistic copy needs bringing back to reality.

Make it usable

Your brand’s tone and style and nuances suited to your reader.

You get an edited draft with unresolved questions clearly marked for your reviewers.

Financial promotions approval remains with your firm. Any use of AI tools is agreed with you.

Questions

Before you brief an editor.

What the different kinds of support cover, and where the responsibilities sit.

What is the difference between financial editing and proofreading?

Editing can address the argument, structure, clarity, terminology and consistency of a piece. Proofreading is the final check of settled, usually laid-out content. If the explanation still needs substantial work, we should agree an editing brief rather than expect a proofread to cover it.

Can you edit technical content without losing the expert’s meaning?

Yes. I work with the intended audience and the terminology the subject requires, querying ambiguity rather than silently choosing an interpretation. My LSEG work is an example of technical copyediting for institutional readers. Your subject specialists remain involved where a factual or technical judgement needs their confirmation.

Can you help with a rebrand or a large library of content?

Yes. I can apply new naming, house style and tone across a suite of documents, recording recurring decisions and flagging inconsistencies. We would agree the document list, source versions, depth of edit and who owns questions about products or policy. The LCH/LSEG assignment covered around 50 pieces.

Can you review financial content produced with AI?

Yes. I can review it for meaning, structure, consistency and support for its claims against agreed source material. We would define the scope of checking and the questions to refer to your experts. The review assesses the content itself; it is not a certification that the draft is accurate or compliant.

Do you check facts and FCA compliance?

Fact-checking against agreed sources can be part of the brief. I can also flag editorial concerns around claims, qualifications and clarity, and work with compliance reviewers on revisions. I do not provide legal advice, approve financial promotions or guarantee compliance. Those decisions remain with the firm and its appointed reviewers.

Can you work as part of our agency or in-house team?

Yes. I have worked in-house, in agencies and as a freelancer. I can provide editing capacity or take on a broader content assignment, working with your writers, subject experts, designers and reviewers. We would agree responsibilities, access and availability around the work you need done.

Can you manage a series as well as edit individual pieces?

Yes. That can include briefs, contributor coordination, editing, feedback and liaison with design. For Cleary Gottlieb’s Private Equity Wrap, a specialist writer produced the first drafts and I managed the editorial development and delivery through Rostrum. The scope depends on which responsibilities your team wants support with.

How much does financial editing cost?

The fee depends on the state of the draft, technical depth, volume, source checking and review requirements. Send a representative sample, the formats and deadline, and I can suggest a scope and quote. My Work includes indicative rates; an agreed project fee or day rate will reflect the actual assignment.

Have something that needs a closer look?

Tell me about your next project.

Let me know what the material is, who it is for and when you need it. We can work out whether it needs an edit, a rethink or more sustained support.
